JAKARTA, RIMANEWS – Anand Krishna was back to stand a trial at the District Court of South Jakarta on Wednesday (6/7/2011). Now the trial is presided by the head of the team of judges Albertina Ho, who replaced Hari Sasangka. The agenda of the day is the examination of the witnesses from Anand Ashram Foundation (affiliated with the UN), namely Maya Safira and Liny Tjeris.

“There will be two witnesses present at court: Maya and Liny. The witnesses are presented to support the statement of Anand that there was no sexual harassment committed against Tara, as charged so far,” the lawyer of Anand Krishna, Humphrey S. Djemat said.

As reported rifely in various media, the prolific author of 140 books is indicted by the prosecutor Martha Berliana Tobing, SH of having committed indecent acts against a victim who has submitted her report, Tara Pradipta.

This interfaith spiritual activist is charged with article 290 of Criminal Code and is punishable by a maximum imprisonment of 7 years, even though the number of witnesses and the evidence do not meet the elements of crime to be brought to court. Yet this case is forwarded to court, which suggests that there was a fabrication in the case of Anand Krishna. That is the opinion of a criminal law expert from Gadjah Mada University, Prof. Dr. Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, S.H., M.Hum, in the discussion “The Controversy of Anand Krishna’s Case” at the University Club (UC) in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (5/31/2011).
